THE HUNT FOR THE PERFECT RED

THE RED

I can’t quite remember the first time I put on nail polish, but if I could, I’m sure it would be bright red. First of all, it was the nineties. The years when the nail revolution hadn’t really started yet, when woman wore nail polish the same way they wore lipstick: One shade at a time, either red or something complementary to the skin tone. Boy, have things changed since then! Not only do we wear more than one shade a time, but it seems like everything can now be used as a nail ”accessory”. Rhinestones, studs, glitters, sand, caviar-like beads, feathers (yes!)… You name it, we’ve worn it!

Still, it can feel really nice to rediscover and old classic from time to time and that’s true even though I’m really not a fan of red nail polish (I only deign to wear it around Christmas time, and still…) I’m much more in love with cold shades like blue, teal, turquoise, purple and neutral shades like black, white, silver and nudes. That being said, I couldn’t resist to one particular red the last time I was in Europe. (It will be one year soon, I can’t believe how much I miss my family!) I picked up the shade at a Drogerie Markt, along with 4 other ones from a brand I had never heard of before: S-he Stylezone. Ok, the name isn’t glamorous. Yes, it sounds like a brand designed for teenage girls and quite frankly, it’s in that price range, too.

THE RED 6

The bottles aren’t too great either and the baby-blue logo on the cap makes me want to throw-up every time I look at my nail polish collection (Ok, I slightly exaggerated on that one). But, my mother taught me well to care about what’s inside. The 10 ml of juicy nectar, in the present case. It has a jelly like base that stands somewhere between translucent red and pink, depending on how many coats you apply and it’s filled with red glitters so tiny you only see them when they move in the liquid, reflecting the light in the most gorgeous way. Even though I tend to think that red nail polish is not very modern, I really loved this one and would wear it again any time, not just for Christmas. It’s #195 from S-he Stylezone and it’s my new favorite red.

This week’s weather in Montreal has been half blissful, half nightmare. The occasional sun rays made us forget the damned rain and for the first sunny and warm day of the week, flowers in full bloom just seemed right. And that big pearl necklace did, too. That being said, my heart will only really bloom when it’s warm enough outside for me to wear a bathing suit, which is nothing below 30. Happy spring, folks!

A MAELSTROM OF SPRING DRESSES!

Now that April is definitely here, the whole country has mobilised, willing Spring to finally arrive. For good and holding hands with its best friend, (and mine, too) Summer. Even though the weather channel just announced a new wave of snow, (bleh!) I can’t help but dream about the beach, being tan, lying in the sand, wearing short denim short and… Dresses. Dream dresses, the ultimate Summer piece of clothing, by far. Of course, one can wear a dress in the Winter (see here) but nothing equals wearing a full short skirt with no tights, sandals and a carefree mind. With actual stores and Net-a-porter being overflowing with Summer dresses, I already started doing some hot season shopping and picked some of my favorite dresses, great for Spring and Summer, in many great styles and trends to embrace (with Ray-Bans and Mojitos, of course).

THE LATEST SMALL THINGS…

Since I started the blog a couple of months ago, I did a couple of posts (eg. here, here and here) that gathered some small things that made me happy, whether they are related to fashion or not. After all, a good meal is sometimes as rewarding as a new pair of shoes. Here are some of the things that made last week fun:
